History
................................................................................................................ |
The General Education Center was
founded in August 2000. The goal of the center is to
push forward its well-rounded education principles
throughout the school, so as to compensate for the
insufficiency of the technological and vocational
education, which results in overemphasis on the
development of one's professional skills. In short, the
center hopes that students not only pursue their
specialty while at school, but also develop wholesome
personalities and broad horizons.
|
Based on
the positioning of the school, the center, in its early
stage, was a unit in charge of coordinating and planning
cross-departmental curricula. Therefore, our main task,
initially, was to devise general education study
programs suitable for students, which also included
finding teachers qualified for teaching these classes.
In its first five years of "adjustment", the center
offered 70 courses in 4 major categories. Today, the
center regularly offers 40 or so courses each semester
for students in different fields of study to choose as
electives. There will be continual addition of new
courses and elimination of old ones from the curriculum.
|
In the
present stage (from the academic year of 2005), the
center, according to its own design, will focus on the
promotion of general education activities. So far, we
have gained approval from the school authorities for
bringing in teachers in the division of general courses
under the supervision of the general education center.
In doing so, we hope that it will diversify the contents
of general education.

Goal
of Education
................................................................................................................ |
In
addition to abiding by the school motto, which is
"Honesty, Justice, Lawfulness, and Renovation", the aim
of general education also lies in shaping an individual
into a well-rounded being, equipping oneself with the
latest scientific knowledge and international vision, as
well as motivating one's lifetime learning requirements
for a modern citizen.

Concrete
Goals of Education
................................................................................................................ |
1.
|
To offer
the core curriculum --- this helps steer students
towards the right course in life and lay a foundation
for future success. |
2. |
To provide
diverse courses and technology integrating platforms ---
this strengthens students' adaptability to the job
market. |
3. |
To
maintain a balance between professional life and
personal life --- by offering art and cultural courses,
this enriches students' lives, builds up healthy minds,
as well as helps to cope with any hurdle they may
encounter in every turning point of their lives. |
4. |
To have
both local and international mindsets --- through
awareness of different cultures, students learn to keep
a global view while living in Taiwan. |
